FAQ's - 1. General
What’s the difference between a Valeter and a Detailer?
A Valeter focuses on cleaning and tidying up the car’s exterior and interior, often using quick processes to remove dirt and grime. A Detailer, on the other hand, goes much deeper—correcting paint imperfections, refining surfaces, and applying professional-grade protection. Detailing is about restoration, enhancement, and preservation, rather than just cleaning.

So are Prestige Details, Valeter's or a Detailer's?

We are Detailers. While we carry out deep cleaning and valeting as part of our process, our expertise is in high-end detailing—which includes machine polishing, paint correction, ceramic coatings, and premium vehicle protection.
What is the IDA?
The International Detailing Association (IDA) is the global standard for professional detailing. It promotes industry best practices, ethics, and ongoing education for serious detailing professionals.
What does an IDA 'Certified Detailer' and 'Skills-Validated' mean?
Being an IDA Certified Detailer (CD) means passing rigorous exams on detailing theory, techniques, and best practices. Skills-Validated (SV) goes even further, requiring an expert hands-on assessment to prove practical ability. When you choose an IDA Certified & Skills-Validated Detailer, you’re choosing someone who is professionally trained, assessed, and committed to quality.
Are you insured to work on my vehicle?
Absolutely! We carry full professional detailing insurance, covering your vehicle while it’s in our care, including liability for damage and treatment risk. Your car is safe with us.
Do you just detail supercars?
No! While we specialize in luxury, performance and supercars, we detail all types of vehicles, from classic cars to daily drivers. Every car deserves expert care, regardless of make or model.
Who’s cars do you look after?
We look after a wide range of clients, including supercar owners, collectors, enthusiasts, and those who simply love their cars. Our clients value high-quality detailing and proper vehicle care—whether it's a Ferrari, Porsche, Range Rover, or a cherished daily driver.
Can I just do it myself?
You can, but professional detailing requires advanced techniques, specialist tools, and premium products that aren’t readily available to consumers. Incorrect techniques (like using the wrong polish or applying pressure unevenly) can cause more damage than good. Our expertise ensures safe, high-quality results that last.
Why shouldn’t I take my car to a high-street hand car wash?
While high-street hand car washes (sometimes called “Scratch & Shine” washes) may seem like a quick and cheap option, they often cause more harm than good. The majority of these operations:

🚫 Use incorrect wash techniques – Dirty sponges, harsh chemicals, and improper drying methods result in swirl marks, scratches, and long-term paint damage.
🚫 Lack professional training – Most workers have no knowledge of safe washing techniques, pH-neutral products, or correct decontamination processes.
🚫 Use unknown, low-quality chemicals – Many use highly acidic or harsh alkaline cleaners that strip away protective layers, damaging paint, trim, and wheels.
🚫 Are often uninsured – If your car gets scratched, damaged, or stained, there’s usually zero accountability or insurance coverage.
🚫 Rely on cheap labour & unethical practices – Many are linked to illegal employment, with workers being underpaid and working in poor conditions. Some have also been connected to money laundering and tax evasion.
While these washes might look clean at first, over time, repeated visits will result in dull, scratched, and damaged paint that can cost thousands to fix properly.

At Prestige Details, we only use professional-grade quality products, safe wash techniques, and are insured to preserve your vehicle’s finish rather than degrade it. Investing in proper detailing keeps your car looking pristine for years, rather than slowly destroying it.

Why is detailing more expensive than valeting?
Detailing is far more in-depth than valeting—it includes paint correction, decontamination, and professional-grade protection, using high-end products and specialist techniques. While valeting is about cleaning, detailing is about enhancing and protecting your vehicle’s long-term condition.
How much does it cost to detail my ‘average-sized’ car?
It depends on the level of detailing required. A basic Full Valet/ Deep Clean detail starts from £120.00, while a full Gloss Enhancement detail starts at £297+ without protection. Each car is different, so we provide tailored pricing based on the car’s size, condition, and desired level of perfection.
Your prices state 'from', is this the total amount I'll have to pay?
Final pricing depends on vehicle size and condition. Larger vehicles require additional time and materials, so they carry an additional charge. The stated 'from' price give a starting point such as a small vehicle. An example of vehicle sizes would be as follows:

-
Small (Fiat 500, Smart Car, Ferrari Roma, Lamborghini Huracán) - starting point
-
Medium (VW Golf, BMW 3 Series, Audi A4)
-
Large (Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLE)
-
XL (Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Discovery, Rolls-Royce Cullinan)

FAQ's - 2. Wash Process
What makes your wash process safer than a regular car wash?
We use a pH-neutral, two-bucket wash method with premium microfibre mitts and ultra-soft drying towels. This prevents swirls and scratches, unlike automatic car washes or poor hand-wash techniques, which cause long-term damage.
What do you use to clean wheels safely?
We deep-clean wheel faces, barrels, and arches using non-acidic cleaners and soft brushes, ensuring they are decontaminated without damage to the finish.
Why do you use citrus/ snow foam before washing the car?
Snow foam and/ or Citrus gently breaks down dirt and contaminants before touching the paint, reducing the risk of swirls and scratches. It’s a crucial pre-wash step that most standard washes skip.
How do you dry the car safely to avoid water spots?
We use soft microfibre drying towels and high-pressure air drying, ensuring a streak-free finish without causing micro-scratches.
Do you clean door shuts and fuel caps?
Yes! We thoroughly clean door shuts, boot shuts, and fuel cap areas, as these are often neglected and accumulate grime over time.
FAQ's - 3. Enhancement
What is a gloss enhancement detail?
A gloss enhancement detail involves a single-stage machine polish to remove 60-80% of micro-scratches and swirl marks, significantly improving the car’s gloss and depth. It’s perfect for cars that need a refresh but not full paint correction.
How long does a gloss enhancement detail take?
It takes a full day to complete properly. We follow a 24-step process, ensuring maximum clarity, depth, and gloss before sealing in the finish
Will a gloss enhancement detail remove all scratches?
It removes light to moderate swirls and micro-scratches, but deep scratches that have cut through the clear coat may require full paint correction or touch-ups.
FAQ's - 4. Protection
What’s the best protection for my car’s paint?
It depends on your needs:
-
Wax (6-8 weeks of protection) – Great for short-term shine.
-
SiO2 Sealant (3-6 months) – Stronger than wax, with added hydrophobic properties.
-
Ceramic Coating (1-5 years) – Best long-term protection, offering unmatched gloss, durability, and ease of cleaning.

What are the benefits of a ceramic coating?
✅ Long-term protection (1-5 years)
✅ Extreme gloss & hydrophobic effect (water beads off)
✅ Reduces the need for frequent washing
✅ Prevents fading, oxidation, and UV damage
Can I apply ceramic coating myself?
DIY coatings exist, but professional coatings offer far superior durability and performance. Incorrect application can lead to streaking, high spots, and uneven protection. We ensure a flawless finish with expert preparation and application.
How long does ceramic coating take to cure?
It requires 12-24 hours for initial curing and 7 days for full hardness, during which it should be kept dry and free from contamination.
Do you offer aftercare advice?
Absolutely! We provide detailed aftercare advice, recommended products, and maintenance plans to keep your car looking freshly detailed for longer.
